Alert mode
Whenever the app tries to connect to a server on the Internet, Little Snitch displays a connection notification, allowing you to decide whether to allow or deny the connection. No data is transmitted without your consent. Your decision will be remembered and automatically applied in the future.
Silent mode
If you’re new to Little Snitch, you may be overwhelmed by the sheer number of notifications from apps wanting to connect to the internet. Ever wanted to know where in the world your data is going? Network Monitor shows the locations of all the servers your Mac is connected to on an interactive world map. Animated connection lines provide a clear view of what data is currently being transferred and what connections are blocked.

Upgraded filtering engine and user interface
A major focus of Little Snitch 5 was integrating the new network filtering technologies introduced by Apple in macOS Big Sur. The core filtering engine has been rebuilt from the ground up to replace the previous kernel extension-based approach, which is no longer supported by macOS.
In addition, Little Snitch has been adapted to the operating system’s new elegant design language with great attention to detail. New design features, such as a prominent search bar and a newly structured sidebar, go beyond aesthetic choices and add a level of simplicity and intuitiveness to the user interface.
Installation
Drag and Drop Many users have been eagerly awaiting the simplified drag and drop installation. Now you no longer need to reboot your computer to install or update Little Snitch.
Improved traffic monitoring
Little Snitch now efficiently collects connection information in the background. It no longer requires the Network Monitor application to be running to collect this information, resulting in reduced memory and CPU usage.
The improved monitoring system is now capable of storing traffic information for the entire year, rather than just the last hour as before.
Command Line Interface
System administrators can now configure various program settings via the command line interface, making Little Snitch scriptable for the first time.
This interface now also offers the ability to report network connections in log format for detailed and comprehensive traffic analysis.
